Jesus, Java & Jewels Matthew 6:19-24

From time to time, I will break out my Kitchen Aid mixer. It’s the second one I have owned. I received the first one as a Christmas present from Jason on our first Christmas after we married. Of course, it is the one with all the bells and whistles that comes with financing options. I used it one time to make pizza dough and burnt the motor up. Not to worry it was under warranty and they replaced it. Also, I have two handheld mixers…a General Electric and a Kitchen Aid. The G.E. is my mama’s and the other I received as a wedding gift. I made Jason’s favorite cake for the first time with it. I have wonderful memories tied two those mixers and would be heartbroken if something ever happened to them. During my devotion this morning, I began thinking about the wonderful memories tied to those items. The thought of something happening to those was heartbreaking. Then I realized that I was kinda coveting them like they were precious treasures. It hit me all the sudden…It was like the Lord had dropped that commercial grade mixer on my head….and I thought,” if that is my treasure then that is where my heart is? Now, why would I have my heart in a mixer?” Thank you Jesus for that subtle reminder that my treasures are in heaven and not on earth. Growing up, my mama made sure that I knew that there was no treasure here on earth that could compare to what Jesus has in store for us. While it’s easy to forget, diligently working on my relationship with God will allow Him to send me those reminders.
