Jesus, Java & Jewels 💎 Matthew 11:28-30💎

Even though I constantly remind myself of being perfectly imperfect, I still feel the weighted burden of perfection on my shoulders. I sat here this morning during my devotion trying to figure out why it takes me so long to complete some projects when some of my best work comes from those moments of thoughtless hesitation. Like those “grace under fire” moments or “make it work” moments...those often turn out to be much better outcomes  because there is literally no time to criticize myself nor listen to other’s criticism.

While reading Matthew 11:28-30, I was reminded that I should never carry the heavy burden of being perfect or preforming perfectly. I need to listen to God and His teachings…it’s easy to do and in return there is no burden to carry.

While observing Sidney Bess this morning, I noticed this yellow sticky that she wrote and placed on her computer. It read “If you dream it, you can do it”. When I asked her if she believed that all she had to do was “dream it” her response was “well if you work hard for something, anything is possible so long that it’s in God’s plan”. She is an overachiever and comes from two overachievers that have spent their life carrying that burden of perfection. While my devotion was for me, it’s clear that this was God’s way of reminding me to remind her that no one should ever carry that burden of perfection. I have seen that burden in all of them from time to time but her especially.

After staring at the yellow sticky note, I looked up to see she was studying the Great Commission and ways we can work on it daily. She shared with me that one way is to remind ourselves and others that God’s gift of grace frees us from perfectionism...that's what I needed to be reminded of. Now, I know what I will have written on my own yellow sticky note.
