Jesus, Java & Jewels - James 5:16

Do you have a "go-to" activity that you do when life gets to be too much? If you recognize the names, Meredith and Christina, then you too are probably a fan of Grey's Anatomy. When life got to be too much, this dynamic duo would "dance it out". They would put on a great song like Where Does the Good Go and then they would "dance it out". For about a minute, they would remove themselves from the stress of the world. Then of course, the song would end and misery often returned. If you are like me, I would have struggled with just moving around aimlessly to the rhythm of the music...I mean it is easier to do a Tik Tok dance than it is to freestyle to the rhythm of the music.

Prayer is my go-to activity when life gets to be too much. But much like the "dancing it out" activity, when I go to God in prayer and my conversation nothing seems to change...it's almost like I go right back to the stress of the world. While my immediate situation does change though, my heart does change. As long as I go to God speaking to Him straight from my heart, I am connected to Him immediately...it isn't a case where you are connected and then have to ask for his supervisor that can better serve you...He is instantly on the line waiting to hear what I have to say. And like any other conversation, as long as I am not just talking, but listening as well...then my heart is changed and the struggles around me become a little easier to handle.

When it comes to prayer, freestyle is the perfect choice. Much like "dancing it out", there is no right or wrong way to pray. No particular positions or movements...no particular words...so long as you are speaking to Him straight from your heart...and remember from yesterday's post that He knows everything about you so He will know if you are truly speaking from your heart.

I believe prayer to be one of the greatest gifts that God has given us. He allows me to come straight to Him and lay down every concern and worry that I may have right at His feet and leave them there...never having to pick them back up. So, today and everyday moving forward...I will just "pray it out" instead of "dancing it out" and I will thank God while doing so.
